Extensions and alterations to Scoil Sailearna, Inverin, Co. Galway
HYA provided the services as Architect, ER, Assigned Certifier and Design Certifier for the project, which involved significant demolitions and construction of two new extensions (965 sq.m. and 550 sq.m.) to an existing primary school in Indreabhán, in the heart of the Gaeltacht. Scoil Sailearna is a Gaeltacht primary school. The project also involved alterations and refurbishment of the existing original school building. The works also included a significant amount of external site works including a new access roadway, new car park, new hard play areas, boundary walls, sewage treatment plant and rainwater harvesting plant.
The project was carried out in a live primary school, which remained in use throughout the contract period. The design team and the contractor liaised closely with the school authorities to carefully manage the works in order to minimise potential hazards and to ensure the school continued to operate with a minimum of disruption. The project was carried out in 2 separate phases.
