Hamilton Young Architect’s designed Summerhill College with a vision of a sustainable, compact three-story school with high profile sitting along the National Road, a strong visual link to the iconic historic 1890’s school and with high-quality details and materials.
Designed from first principles, we resolved site constraints, urban context, historic context and statutory requirements while providing a radical departure from preconceived solutions. This provided Summerhill College with an iconic school building, which optimises the available lands and provided a sustainable solution. The school was delivered both on time and within budget.
This 7,466 sq.m. post-primary school consists of 26 classrooms including specialist rooms for science, construction studies, art, music, maths, social studies, and religion as well as PE hall, changing facilities and an exercise and fitness suite.
The design incorporates high-quality internal finishes and details including cut limestone, zinc cladding, Blue/Gray brick and a vibrant glazed blue brick entrance lobby.
